The Limousine Bus

The official airport limousine bus is the quiet third option most comparisons rush past. It deserves a fair hearing.

The Facts

• ¥2,800 adult, half for children — the cheapest direct option.
• About 85–105 minutes to Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi (the south side of the station), depending on traffic.
• Ticket counters and stops are directly outside arrivals; luggage goes in the hold, which means you do not carry it at all.

When the Bus Genuinely Wins

• Your hotel is near Hachijo-guchi. Several large hotels cluster by the south exit; the bus effectively delivers to their doorstep while Haruka passengers cross the station concourse.
• You are budget-first and half an hour is worth a few hundred yen.
• You hate stairs with suitcases. Kerb to kerb, the bus involves the least lifting of any per-seat option.

When It Does Not

Traffic. The Haruka’s timetable is a promise; the expressway’s is not. If you have an onward connection out of Kyoto Station, take the train. And in the evening the bus timetable thins — check the operator’s schedule for your actual arrival day rather than assuming a late bus exists.

The Group Caveat, Again

Four people on the bus is ¥11,200 — at which point the per-group private car at $112 is within one coffee of it, and goes to your actual address. The bus is a per-seat answer; check the arithmetic before defaulting to it.
